Almost everything I am using now is open source.
There is a lot of misinformation out there as to the difficulty of doing that but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it really is.
Right now I am running Linux and my total maintenance time for the last four months or so has amounted to clicking on a "install updates" button which is usually completed by the time I refill my coffee.
