In the Garden of Eden stood a tree.
that was called the tree of knowledge.
Of every other tree they could eat
except that one.
Well, they did and got evicted.
All my life I have understood
that the punishment was the eviction.
But now I believe God was pretty shrewd
and the punishment was self-inflicted.
They did it to themselves
when they bit that Eden beauty.
If it weren't for that old apple we could
be eating, sleeping, loving,
swimming in the river, lying in the sun.
